The HVAC tech told us we were lucky we called before the temperatures plummeted
When my pipes froze last year, I thought I was done. I was really worried that they would burst after our furnace quit working. A friend of ours came in and he was sure he would be able to fix the pipes. He said he had thawed out pipes many times over his career as a house owner. I was surprised when he came to the house with a blowtorch and a can of hairspray. My husband wasn’t home and I was not comfortable. I asked him what he was going to do with the hairspray. He told me that he was going to start spraying and then ignite the hairspray with the blowtorch. He said it created the perfect heat to thaw our water pipes. I told him he had to wait until my husband got home. I didn’t want to be around when he set my house on fire. I was really worried about what he planned on doing. He left in a huff because he said he wasted his time. I called the HVAC company to come look at our furnace and then I called my husband. I told him what he had planned and my husband told me I did the right thing. The HVAC company arrived quickly. The HVAC tech told us we were lucky we called before the temperatures plummeted. They had more furnace troubles during these times of lowered temperatures. I asked him what I should do about the pipes and he told me to call a plumber. They could safely thaw the pipes without any difficulties and they could also wrap the pipes with insulation so that it doesn’t happen again.
